It is essential for this unit that competence be demonstrated in

Regular success in achieving peace between groups and success in departmental initiatives Particular failures may be explained away but a record of failure demonstrates lack of the competency In the case of the Interpreting and Negotiating elements positive recommendation by several groups or parties may override a failure to achieve success overall

Range Statement

The Range Statement relates to the Unit of Competency as a whole. It allows for different work environments and situations that may affect performance. Bold italicised wording in the Performance Criteria is detailed below.

Acceptable level of fluency/intelligibility

The speaker is understandable although the accent or choice of words may mark him or her off from native speakers

Parameters of own behaviour

This may include not conveying frivolous or intentionally insulting messages, not conveying intelligence concerning the other side's position or behaviour, etc

Fair and non-provocative

A provocatively expressed claim or offer may be toned down but its substance must remain unchanged
